Version 0.7.0 released
Hi there! Yes your mind is not playing tricks on you. The game jumped from 0.3.0 to 0.7.0 in the version number.
As I've talked about in my last post, I made a lot of changes in regards to what kind of story I want to tell and how much depth the game will have. So I changed the version number to reflect that. I was very ambitious with this project and realized that I'll never get it done that way.
I decided to set the release of version 1.0 to some time around Halloween. The game will then have been in Early Access for a bout a year, which works well in my opinion.
But now on to the changes I've made for version 0.7.0. Here is the list:
- A complete change of the house. It's more compact, but also more realistic. There is more furniture and overall decoration.
- You can now play the whole game up to the first encounter (including fighting it). You are able to play further, but after that the game is untested and still highly in development.
- New and improved rituals, books and enemies! While you won't be able to properly play around with the new stuff, I thought it's worth mentioning regardless. I'll also plan to rewrite some parts of the books that were already in the game. They are important to the overall game experience, but due to the changes I made, some books now have minor errors in them.
- A few gameplay features are gone: Sanity and room tendency just to name two. Those features weren't that well thought out and given the new direction of the game, there is no point in keeping them.
- The game now has a proper cutscene system, complete with a skip feature. This will mostly be used to guide the player in the right direction and polish to the overall experience. Don't think of these cutscenes as what you might know from AAA games.
- Enemies now have proper pathfinding, though it still needs a bit of work.
I believe that's all. Thank you for following the development process of A Home in Darkness. I'll go back to developing now.
